jumping spiders

A German-speaking wildlife photographer has posted close-up pictures of a male dark jumping spider, Evarcha arcuata, calling them by far the cutest images in their collection. The poster acknowledged that some people dislike spiders and might object to seeing them, but the tiny arachnid's large eyes are winning over audiences. The thread highlights the growing popularity of macro photography showing spiders in a friendlier light.

A macro photograph of a juvenile jumping spider is drawing attention from nature photographers. The image highlights the spider's flat, square cephalothorax, which carries eight eyes including two large forward-facing principal eyes, with additional eyes set on the sides and rear corners. Commenters marvel that the arrangement gives the tiny spider full-circle vision, with some saying the creature looks like a cool little robot.

Under the hashtag #insektenSamstag, a German-speaking nature enthusiast shared photos of an Ampfer-Wurzelbohrer (Triodia sylvina, a moth species) found on a wall near a jumping spider. The post links to the species' Wikipedia article and notes the photos look similar to each other. It is part of a recurring weekend hashtag where people share insect photography.
