ghost plates

Drivers in the UK are talking about 'ghost plates' — number plates deliberately altered or covered so traffic cameras cannot read them. The topic has surged after reports that new traffic cameras can detect these plates, which are designed to help drivers evade speed cameras, congestion charges and police identification. Commentators warn that using them is illegal and can lead to fines, penalty points or prosecution.

Scientists are using geoneutrinos—ghostly particles produced by radioactive decay inside the Earth—to build a new map of the planet's deep, volatile interior. Wired reports that detecting these elusive particles, which pass through matter almost untouched, can reveal how much heat-producing radioactive material lies in the mantle and core, shedding light on plate tectonics, Earth's thermal evolution, and its long-term geological activity.
