Neuroscientist David Van Essen, based at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has been awarded the 2026 Ralph W. Gerard Prize in Neuroscience, one of the field's highest honours. Van Essen is known for his work on cerebral cortex structure and brain mapping, including leadership of the Human Connectome Project. Colleagues at WashU Medicine announced the award.
