Todd Haynes' 2002 drama Far from Heaven is being rewatched and reassessed more than two decades after its release. One viewer who returned to the film found that, on first viewing, its homage to Douglas Sirk's 1950s melodramas overshadowed everything else, but this time recognised how Haynes used that style to expose the racism and homophobia suffocating 1950s American society. The film stars Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid.
