Tiberius II

The Byzantine Emperor Justin II died on this day in 578. His reign, begun in 565 after Justinian I, saw the loss of parts of Italy to the Lombards and wars with Persia, and he was succeeded by Tiberius II. The anniversary is being noted alongside travel and history material about Istanbul, formerly Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire.
