The Walrus

A fundraising call from Canada is drawing chatter: Camille, calling on behalf of The Walrus, the Canadian magazine published at thewalrus.ca, is asking readers to support the publication through philanthropic donations. The exchange is being shared with a light, bemused tone, raising questions about whether small independent outlets increasingly rely on direct reader contributions.

An essay in The Walrus argues that the ubiquitous 'top ten books' list format should be abolished, questioning whether ranked reading lists serve readers or genuinely reflect literary merit. The piece is being shared and discussed among readers online, with the debate touching on how such lists shape book culture, publishing attention, and what people choose to read.
