Spain is vying for influence as the EU shapes its defence portfolio, with discussion around the European commissioner for defence and space. Ricardo Martí Fluxá, president of Spanish aerospace and defence association TEDAE, said Spain "must be indispensable in the critical elements of the European defence industry", arguing the country should secure a leading position as Brussels reorganises its security and space policy.
