Semipalatinsk test site

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has called on nuclear powers to return to negotiations, marking 35 years since the closure of the Semipalatinsk nuclear test site. He warned that global arms-control safeguards are weakening, revoking attention to Kazakhstan's role as the site of decades of Soviet nuclear testing and its later decision to give up nuclear weapons.
