Christie's is auctioning what is described as an actual RFC 1149 packet in its Fine Printed Books and Manuscripts: Science sale. RFC 1149, 'A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers', is a famous 1990 April Fools' networking joke that defines how to send internet data by carrier pigeon. Tech and networking enthusiasts online are sharing the listing, treating the engineering in-joke made physical as a collectible piece of internet history.
