Behringer has announced the Polykeys 61, a 61-key MIDI keyboard controller featuring polyphonic aftertouch, a capability rare in affordable controllers. The company also says the design is open-source, allowing users and third parties to study or build on it. Music technology communities are reacting to the combination of polyphonic aftertouch and an open approach at Behringer's characteristically low price point, with debate over how it will compare with established controller makers.
