National Academy of Design

Sound artist Stephen Vitiello, a Virginia Commonwealth University professor, has been honored by the National Academy of Design, which recognizes his practice of treating listening itself as an art form. Vitiello is known for work built from field recordings and environmental sound, and the recognition places him among prominent American artists and architects elected to the academy.
