Japan is preparing to launch the Martian Moons eXploration (MMX) spacecraft tonight, sending it to Mars's little-studied moons Phobos and Deimos. Aboard is Idefix, a small European lander, and the mission is expected to collect samples from Phobos and return them to Earth. German-language science commentary is highlighting the launch as a rare look at two largely unexplored bodies in the solar system.
