The Dutch tree guide Bomengids has named the French maple (Acer monspessulanum) its tree species of the day. The Montpellier maple, a southern European species, is highlighted with its distinctive paired winged fruits, playfully described as alternating fruit names in Dutch, English and Spanish. Nature and botany enthusiasts are sharing the daily spotlight as part of the guide's ongoing series introducing European tree species.
