Example.com

Example.com has launched what is being described as its most extensive redesign in decades, overhauling the site's visual design and layout. The redesign is drawing significant attention online, with discussion focusing on how the long-standing site has changed and how the new design compares with previous versions.

A developer published the reply he received from IANA explaining recent changes to example.com, the reserved domain reserved for documentation use. The exchange is drawing attention among engineers curious about how the familiar placeholder page is administered and why its content was updated, with discussion focused on the policy reasoning behind the alteration.

IANA has changed example.com, the long-standing reserved domain used for documentation, moving it from a single static English page to a basic HTML page paired with a separate JavaScript file. The script adds the notice in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish. IANA says the split reduces bandwidth. The change, dated 28 September 2026 and logged by DebugBear's monitoring, is drawing attention from developers tracking the famously unchanging page.
