EarthCARE

The European Space Agency says its EarthCARE satellite has delivered detailed observations of a volcanic plume, helping to improve aviation safety. By measuring the height, density and movement of ash clouds, the data can give airlines and forecasters better warnings, reducing the risk of aircraft flying through dangerous volcanic ash that can damage engines.
