Durable Actors

An open-source project called Durable Actors has been released on GitHub, offering a self-hosted alternative to Cloudflare-style Durable Objects with configurable compute per actor. The launch has drawn attention on Hacker News, where developers are discussing the approach, its pricing-free open-source model, and how it compares to managed serverless state platforms.

A developer has introduced the Durable Actor Session Protocol, an open specification aimed at managing long-lived, resumable actor sessions in distributed systems. The project, published under the dasp-protocol GitHub organization, is drawing early attention from engineers interested in durable computing patterns and fault-tolerant session handling. Discussion so far centres on how such a protocol could simplify building stateful applications that survive restarts and network failures.
