India's Defence Research and Development Organisation, working with an Indian startup, has developed a dilution refrigerator capable of reaching 20 millikelvin, the extreme cooling needed for quantum computers. The system would reduce reliance on imported cryogenic equipment, which is currently dominated by a handful of foreign suppliers and often subject to export controls. The announcement is being discussed as a step toward homegrown quantum computing hardware.
