Chechnya

Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Chechnya often mocked online as the commander of so-called 'TikTok troops', has been given the rank of army general and awarded the maroon beret of Russia's special forces. The promotion is being widely discussed in the context of the war in Ukraine, with critics saying Kadyrov's units have done little fighting while he collects honors and displays them on social media.
