CJNG

Mexican authorities have detained 'El Tanque', identified as a co-founder of the CJNG cartel and a regional operator. The arrest, reported by Excélsior, is being seen as a significant blow to the cartel's leadership structure. The detention is drawing wide attention in Mexico as security forces continue targeting top figures of the criminal organisation.

Authorities have reported the capture in Zapopan, Jalisco, of a man known as 'El Tanque', described as a regional operator for the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and a close associate of its leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias 'El Mencho'. The arrest is drawing attention in Mexican media as part of ongoing operations against the CJNG.

Mexican authorities' arrest of the CJNG commander known as 'R1' has laid bare the cartel's system of 'R'-designated leaders who run operations across Mexico and abroad. Reporting by InSight Crime details how figures such as Rubén Oseguera González illustrate how the Jalisco New Generation cartel delegates territorial control to a network of trusted commanders bearing the 'R' designation.
