The economist Anwar Shaikh has died, aged around 80, according to an obituary notice giving his dates as 1945 to 2026. Shaikh, a longtime professor at the New School for Social Research in New York, was one of the most influential heterodox economists of his generation, known for rigorous work on classical political economy, growth, inequality and finance, and his book 'Capitalism'. Economists across the left are paying tribute to his scholarship.
