Valve software engineer Timur Kristóf presented work at XDC 2026 on improving support for older AMD GPUs in the Linux amdgpu driver, as reported by Phoronix. The talk details driver-level enhancements aimed at extending the life and performance of legacy AMD graphics hardware on Linux, continuing Valve's ongoing contributions to open-source graphics.

Researchers report that protons accelerated by surfing moving plasma waves generated with long-pulse lasers have reached record energies, marking an advance over conventional short-pulse laser acceleration techniques. The result, covered by science news outlets including Phys.org and EurekAlert, suggests a potential path toward more compact and efficient particle accelerators for research and medical applications.
