Engineers have developed a large underwater robot modelled on the oarfish, a deep-sea fish known for its long ribbon-like body and distinctive fin-based swimming. By copying how the oarfish propels itself with a dorsal fin while keeping its body rigid, the researchers aim to build a more efficient vehicle for long-range ocean exploration and monitoring.
