Deer will be fitted with GPS collars and monitored as the wildlife crossing over US Highway 101 in the Los Angeles area opens. The tracking will show whether animals actually use the bridge, which is meant to reconnect habitat fragmented by the freeway and reduce roadkill among deer, mountain lions and other species.
