World Relief

The United Nations has allocated $160 million from its emergency relief fund to support humanitarian operations in 12 crises that have received insufficient international funding. The money is intended to save lives by delivering aid such as food, water and medical care in neglected emergencies. Relief organisations have long warned that underfunded crises are being overlooked as donors concentrate on higher-profile conflicts.

A 1949 documentary produced under the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration, showing aid work for Polish refugees after World War II, is drawing renewed attention from archival film fans. Viewers are revisiting the footage of postwar displacement and early UN relief efforts, discussing how the organisation documented refugee assistance in the immediate aftermath of the war.
