Wisconsin Republican lawmakers voted down Democratic proposals to fund two veterans housing facilities that closed in 2025, then advanced separate veterans-housing legislation of their own. Critics, citing reporting by Wisconsin Watch, argue the rejected funding could have been covered by far smaller sums, pointing to comparisons with other state and federal spending priorities. The episode has become a flashpoint in state budget fights over how committed the GOP majority is to veterans' care.
