WASPs

Researchers report that in tropical ecosystems, certain trees that evolved hollow structures to shelter ants are now being occupied by wasps, which take over the domatia that ants would normally inhabit. The finding highlights an unexpected shift in mutualistic relationships between plants and insects, and is drawing attention from biologists interested in how these plant-defender partnerships can be disrupted.
