Privacy advocates are warning that consumer DNA databases expose not just customers but their relatives, including people who never submitted a sample. 23andMe suffered a data breach in 2023, filed for bankruptcy in 2025, and moved to sell its database of around 15 million customers' genetic data as an asset. Users are being urged to download and delete their genetic data before any sale is completed.
