Surgeon General

The Senate health committee has voted to advance Dr. Nicole Saphier's nomination to become US surgeon general, sending it to the full Senate. Saphier, a radiologist and frequent television medical commentator, would become the country's top public health spokesperson if confirmed. Lawmakers are expected to debate her qualifications and medical communication record ahead of a floor vote.
