Smartphone apps

Schoolchildren in England who do not own a smartphone are being charged higher bus fares than peers who carry one, the Guardian reports. Discounted child fares are often tied to mobile ticketing or app-based verification, so pupils without phones lose access to cheaper travel. Critics call it an unfair penalty on low-income families who have chosen to keep smartphones away from children.
