Section 301

Beijing has criticised efforts in Europe to create a trade instrument modelled on the United States' Section 301 mechanism, a tool allowing unilateral measures against countries deemed to engage in unfair trade practices. China argues such a European version would be protectionist and would damage trade relations. The debate reflects growing willingness in Brussels to take a harder line on China over market access, subsidies and trade imbalances.
