The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has issued the first US construction permit for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor, a GE Vernova Hitachi design planned for the Tennessee Valley Authority's Clinch River site. Supporters see it as a milestone for next-generation nuclear power and a step toward deploying smaller, cheaper reactors for low-carbon electricity.
