A report by New York City investigators found that a detainee at Rikers Island waited three and a half hours to receive medical care before dying, according to The City Reporter. The finding adds to ongoing scrutiny of the city Correction Department's handling of medical emergencies inside the jail complex, which has faced repeated criticism over deaths in custody, staffing shortages and delayed treatment of detainees in need of urgent care.
