Ministry of State Security

MI5 has issued an espionage alert accusing the China General Technology Research Institute of using British academics to spy on UK artificial intelligence research. The security service says the institute has very strong ties to China's Ministry of State Security, its civilian intelligence agency. The alert warns universities and researchers about the risk of sensitive AI knowledge being transferred to Chinese state-linked bodies through academic collaboration.

São Paulo governor candidates Tarcísio de Freitas and Fernando Haddad turned the MEC's Gold Seal certification into a flashpoint during their televised debate ahead of the 2026 elections. The exchanges between the two also broadened into disputes over fiscal control, employment, privatization and public security, with Haddad invoking Argentina's Javier Milei. The Gold Seal is an Education Ministry certification of state education quality that became a campaign talking point.
