Mignon McLaughlin

A line from American journalist and playwright Mignon McLaughlin is being shared widely: "When suffering comes, we yearn for some sign from God, forgetting we have just had one." The observation, tagged with references to atheism, faith and God, is prompting readers to reflect on whether hardship itself should be read as a divine sign, and on the paradox of praying for miracles while overlooking what has already happened.
