British authorities have arrested almost 50 people in a Home Office operation targeting people-smuggling networks operating from the Republic of Ireland into the UK. The coordinated action is one of the larger recent enforcement efforts against smuggling routes across the Irish border, and comes as the UK government faces continued pressure to disrupt irregular migration and dismantle the criminal gangs profiting from it.
