Insurrection Act

Donald Trump says he will not rule out using the Insurrection Act, a law that would allow him to deploy the US military domestically to quell unrest or enforce order. The remark has intensified debate over presidential power and the militarisation of domestic policy, with critics warning it erodes legal norms and supporters framing it as a decisive response to unrest.

Donald Trump said in an interview published Thursday that he has not ruled out invoking the Insurrection Act or declaring a national emergency around the November midterm elections. "I'm not committing to..." he said, leaving open extraordinary measures. The remarks are drawing attention over concerns about the use of presidential emergency powers in the run-up to a national vote.
