The International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have issued a joint statement marking the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons. The statement calls for the abolition of nuclear arms, renewing the humanitarian movement's long-standing warning about the catastrophic consequences of any nuclear detonation and urging states to pursue disarmament.

The International Committee of the Red Cross has submitted a working paper to the United Nations General Assembly First Committee on Disarmament and International Security for its 81st session in 2026. The paper sets out the ICRC's position for the committee's deliberations, though its specific contents have not been detailed.
