A computer program is converting the 101 freeway into music, in a project called 'The 101 Plays Itself'. The software translates data from the interstate into a continuous musical piece, letting listeners hear the highway's rhythm and movement. NPR has covered the project, drawing attention to the growing trend of turning everyday infrastructure and data streams into generative art and sound.
