Conservation voices are highlighting the Chafarinas' skink, a reptile restricted to a narrow stretch of coast around Spain's Chafarinas Islands off North Africa. Its global population has never been measured, yet roads, tourism, lost prey, heat and drought are pressing on the species at once. The argument being made is that a lack of research does not mean a lack of danger, and 'no evidence' of decline is not the same as no impact.
