The Gitea project has released version 28.0 of its self-hosted code hosting platform, publishing the announcement on its official blog. The release is drawing attention among developers, particularly those who run their own Git infrastructure and prefer a lightweight alternative to GitHub or GitLab.

The update brings faster Markdown source editing, improved search, a customizable desktop toolbar, and performance improvements throughout, along with Linux and macOS refinements contributed by the community.
