Geran drones

The Geran-5, an upgraded version of Russia's Geran attack drone used in strikes on Ukraine, is being discussed alongside reports that Russia is reshaping its air warfare with AI-guided drones capable of navigating without GPS. Observers say Russia is also working to build its own Starlink-style satellite network, raising concerns about the growing sophistication of its drone campaign.

Reports are circulating that a Geran-5 drone, the Russian-made loitering munition used extensively in strikes on Ukraine, was spotted flying over Kyiv. The claim comes amid the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia, where drone attacks on Ukrainian cities remain a near-nightly occurrence. Observers are discussing the sighting as a sign of continued Russian air activity over the capital, though independent verification of the report has not been confirmed.

Ukraine's 412th Nemesis Brigade says its RETRO crew used the new auto-guided ZIRKA interceptor drone to shoot down a Russian Geran-5 jet-powered drone at an altitude of 3,500 meters, with the target travelling at roughly 400 km/h. The claim highlights Kyiv's growing fleet of automated interceptor drones designed to counter faster Russian attack drones.
