Former France and Manchester United forward Eric Cantona has called for Israel to be suspended from Uefa and Fifa, invoking the term 'apartheid Israel' in reference to the war in Gaza. The call, reported by Middle East Eye in 2025, echoes broader campaigns to ban national teams from international football over political and human rights grounds, similar to past precedents involving Russia and apartheid-era South Africa.
