Durban Declaration and Programme of Action

The United Nations is convening a high-level meeting to mark the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action, the landmark framework adopted at the 2001 World Conference against Racism in South Africa. The gathering brings member states and officials together to review progress on combating racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, a quarter-century after the commitments were made.

The United Nations has scheduled a high-level plenary meeting on the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action for 28 September 2026, to be held in morning and afternoon sessions. The declaration, adopted at the 2001 World Conference Against Racism in South Africa, remains the UN's framework for combating racism, racial discrimination and xenophobia.
