Speed skating dominates Dutch sports news ahead of the new season. Jorien Kok captured a world record and an Olympic title, though she admitted shortly before the season started that she had 'little desire to race'. Meanwhile Patrick Roest remains sidelined with a painful foot condition, and it is unclear when he will return to the ice. Several rinks, including Deventer and the Ireen Wüst IJsbaan, cannot open due to cooling system problems, while Jenning de Boo made headlines with a trip alongside his father after a successful winter.
