The European Union is planning a new undersea internet cable connecting Europe to Greenland, with a longer-term option to extend it on to Asia without routing through the United States. The project is part of efforts to strengthen Europe's digital infrastructure and reduce dependence on routes and hubs controlled from outside the continent, in the wake of concerns about cable security and surveillance.
