Alhambra

Spencer Gore's 1910-11 painting Balcony at the Alhambra is drawing attention after being featured in an ongoing series on favourite paintings. The work by the Camden Town Group artist, who died young and remains one of the group's lesser known figures, shows a view over a theatre balcony with a clear impressionist influence. Commenters are praising its charm and its echo of nineteenth-century French painting.

A photographer shared an image of a cat at the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, tagged as travel and cat photography. The shot appears to have been taken in cool weather, around 4°C, and is being shared with cat and photography communities. It is the kind of lighthearted animal-meets-landmark content that travel and cat lovers circulate widely.

The West Theatre and the Alhambra will remain open after organisers raised last-minute funds to keep the venues running. The news has been welcomed by local audiences worried the historic cinemas and event spaces might have to close. Details on how much was raised and who contributed have not yet been widely reported.
