A worker died and another was left in critical condition after a flash fire struck them during work at the Fincantieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy. Unions called the accident unacceptable, with Avs politician Francesco Nobili blaming a 'jungle' of subcontracting that puts workers' rights at risk in the yards. The incident has drawn national media attention and renewed calls for safety measures in Italian shipbuilding.

Ukraine reported one of its largest drone attacks to date on 30 September, saying Russian forces launched 285 strike UAVs between 06:30 and 18:30, including 174 jet-powered models, plus Gerber decoy drones. Ukrainian air defences shot down or neutralised 254 of them, according to preliminary data. The scale of the attack and the high interception rate drew wide attention.

Air activity reports indicate around nine to ten unmanned aerial vehicles detected in the airspace over Sumy in northern Ukraine, prompting alerts of a possible drone attack. The city has faced repeated drone and missile threats during the war, and such alerts typically lead residents to seek shelter while air defences respond.
