Handwritten notes and a whiteboard in your browser. Write with a pen, keep the pdf next to your notes. No account, nothing leaves the browser.
braiNOTES is a free, open-source browser app for handwritten note-taking, like OneNote or GoodNotes but with no account or server — everything stays local. It supports pen tools with pressure, whiteboards, writing on PDFs, snipping slides into notes, offline use, and exporting notebooks as PDFs.
Why now: It was just featured as a Show HN post, presenting a privacy-friendly, local-first alternative to GoodNotes and OneNote for students.
Who it is for: Students and anyone who takes handwritten notes on lecture slides with a stylus.
