PS2 games in the browser: static recompilation to WebAssembly with a native runtime
This project runs PlayStation 2 games directly in a web browser by statically recompiling each game's machine code ahead of time into C++ and then WebAssembly, instead of emulating in real time. It links the recompiled code to reimplementation of PS2 OS, hardware, and vector units, with graphics drawn via WebGPU compute shaders. Users supply their own disc images; demo titles include Gran Turismo 4 and God of War II.
Why now: It was just shown on Hacker News ('Show HN') with impressive demos of demanding games like Gran Turismo 4 running at full speed in the browser, no emulator involved.
Who it is for: Web and retro-gaming developers curious about recompilation, plus PS2 fans who want to play their own discs in a browser.
