People and organisations pool their own machines over Yggdrasil to keep files, websites, email for their own domains and messaging for alarms and alerts among themselves, with no central server and no provider holding their data. Trust can be personal or enforced. Open source to use as you want.
yggstore is an experimental proof-of-concept Go tool for sharing encrypted file storage among a group of friends over the Yggdrasil overlay network. Files are AES-256-GCM encrypted, split into erasure-coded shards spread across peers' machines, and represented by a small stub holding the key. It also offers versioning, messaging, S3-style gateway access, hosted websites, and encrypted email.
Why now: It was discussed on Hacker News as a novel 'lend disk space to friends' P2P storage design combining Yggdrasil identity, encryption, and erasure coding.
Who it is for: Hobbyists and self-hosters willing to run experimental, unreviewed-cryptography software to swap storage with a trusted group.
